Embrace the Rain On Your Wedding Day with Stylish Wedding Umbrellas

Planning a summer wedding in the UK? The unpredictable British weather can be a challenge, but with a little preparation, you can ensure your day goes smoothly. Embrace the rain for stunning photos, invest in clear or white umbrellas, and avoid the cheapest options to prevent mishaps. Plan ahead, and enjoy a beautiful wedding day, rain or shine!

Book Your Videographer

The Great British weather can be an unfair beast; planning for a glorious summer wedding is great, but when you book your wedding 18+ months in advance, there is no guarantee the weather is going to play ball.

Don’t bury your head in the sand and hope for the best, instead, plan for the worst. Okay, maybe not the absolute worst, the chance of a tornado crashing your wedding in the north of England is pretty unlikely. But the most common, disruptive weather we get up here is the rain.

First off, DON’T be afraid to get wet, especially later on in the day. Once the formalities of the wedding ceremony are over, the expectation of a pristine bride is gone. Let your photographer and videographer get those amazing shots. It’s our job to capture you in the best light, come rain or shine.

To keep the edge off any rain, pick up some umbrellas, enough for the wedding couple as a minimum, if you want to splash out, consider getting some for the entire wedding party. You might not need them, and hopefully you won’t, but if you do. You will be grateful.

Personally, the best style of umbrella to get is a clear / transparent umbrella with minimal white trim. They are great for letting the light through and not casting shadows when you’re having your portrait taken. Because they are clear, they somewhat disappear into the background and are a lot less distracting. A solid second choice would be a plain white or ivory umbrella.

Pro Tips:

Avoid Patterned or Coloured umbrellas. It might be tempting to find an umbrella that matches your wedding colours, from a photo / video standpoint, they can cast some unflattering colours on your face and dress and the umbrellas can be a distraction in the final photos and videos. All in all, it is best to avoid them.

Don’t skimp out. You don’t need to spend a fortune on umbrellas, but a word of warning, don’t go for the cheapest you can find and be sure to test them before the big day, you don’t want your umbrella catastrophically failing at the worst possible time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if it rains on my wedding day?

Embrace the rain and let your photographer and videographer capture stunning, unique shots. Use clear or white umbrellas to keep dry while ensuring your photos look fantastic.

Why should I avoid patterned or coloured umbrellas?

Patterned or coloured umbrellas can cast unflattering colours on your face and dress, and they can be distracting in photos and videos. Clear or plain white umbrellas are less obtrusive and let the light through beautifully.

How many umbrellas should I get for my wedding?

At a minimum, get umbrellas for the wedding couple. For extra coverage, consider providing them for the entire wedding party. It’s always better to have more than you think you’ll need.

Are there any specific features I should look for in wedding umbrellas?

Choose clear or white umbrellas with minimal trim to ensure they don’t cast shadows or distract from the photos. Avoid the cheapest options and test them before the big day to ensure they won’t fail.

What if I want my wedding to have a specific colour theme?

While it might be tempting to match umbrellas to your wedding colours, it’s best to stick with clear or white options for photos. If you really want to incorporate your theme, consider using coloured umbrellas in other decorative areas, not in the photos.
