Driving down to Devon for Annabel and Greg’s wedding at Shilstone House was a true adventure. While the journey was longer than expected—an 8-hour drive due to traffic—the destination was well worth it. Nestled in the Devon countryside, Shilstone House is a dream venue for any wedding videographer. The final stretch involved navigating some of the narrowest lanes I’ve ever encountered (yeah, and I have been to the lake district!), but as soon as I arrived, I knew this was going to be an unforgettable day.
The day began at a charming barn-style property connected to Shilstone House. Annabel was surrounded by her family and friends, preparing for the big day in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Her two sisters and her mum were incredibly kind, making me feel right at home as I documented these precious early moments. The bridal party’s makeup, flawlessly done by Meraki, complemented the relaxed yet elegant vibe of the morning.
The wedding ceremony took place on the lawn of Shilstone House, a picturesque location that provided a breathtaking backdrop for their vows. The unique layout of the space gave me plenty of creative angles to work with as a Shilstone House wedding videographer, capturing every moment as Annabel and Greg said “I do.” Following the ceremony, guests were guided through the house to the back garden, where a champagne tower set the tone for the celebrations.
Shilstone House is nothing short of stunning. Its meticulously maintained grounds are a wedding videographer’s dream, offering endless opportunities for capturing magical moments. I had two fantastic portrait sessions with Annabel and Greg, exploring the gardens and finding perfect spots to highlight their connection against the natural beauty of the venue. Their dog even made an appearance for the family portraits, adding a personal touch.
The reception was a relaxed yet lively affair. Guests enjoyed garden games, including giant Jenga, which provided plenty of laughs and candid moments to capture. The weather was perfect—warm and dry, ideal for an outdoor wedding. The florals, arranged by Beth Kerswell at Room for Bloom, added elegance to the setting, perfectly complementing the natural beauty of Shilstone House. Beth also designed the stationery, tying the day together with cohesive and thoughtful details.
As the evening unfolded, the celebrations ramped up. John Cudlipp’s music had everyone on their feet, while unique touches like a wedding newspaper from The Crafty Lab delighted the guests. Annabel’s timeless ring from Robins Brothers and a beautifiul cake by Swirls and Pearls added even more special elements to this already perfect day.
As a wedding videographer at Shilstone House, there are a few logistical challenges to keep in mind, such as strict access times and a regimented flow through the property. However, these are minor when compared to the stunning visuals and incredible moments the venue offers. Despite these challenges, Annabel and Greg’s day came together beautifully, full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Shilstone House combines natural beauty, historical charm, and impeccable attention to detail, making it one of Devon’s premier wedding venues. For couples seeking a wedding videographer, the venue’s diverse spaces—from lush gardens to elegant interiors—offer countless opportunities for creating a timeless wedding film.
